Wholesome culture
How our products are made
Ethical apparel for positive people
Wholesome Culture products are specifically made to help you feel good, doing good — at every step. This means our process is ethical, empowering, and environmentally responsible. It’s making a difference, it’s honest, and (like you) we’re committed to improving each day.
Designed to inspire
Our printed tees, sweats, and accessories show the work of artists who believe in the power of positivity. Wholesome Culture is proud to collaborate with people dedicated to inspiring others through their creativity.
Produced on-demand
Every Wholesome Culture order is printed on demand in Canada. No excess production. No unnecessary waste. If ever you need an order returned or exchanged, the extra inventory will be donated to a non-profit organization which needs it more than we do.
Water-based ink prints
The ink we use is water-based, meaning it’s free of nasty chemicals and soaks naturally into fabrics. Our designs can then move and stretch without cracking or fading with wear, letting you enjoy it longer.
Responsibly packaged
Wholesome Culture orders are shipped in packaging entirely made of biodegradable materials.
Footprint conscious
Yes, we ship internationally, and we get that this uses a lot of fuel. By minimizing this impact across the rest of our business, we offset as best as we can – making sure your order leaves as little behind as possible.
$72,000+ donated
We’ve learned that even the smallest thing, over time, can add up to something big. To date, over $72,000 has been donated.
Sustainable materials matter
A Wholesome Culture is a sustainable one. In the apparel business, this means working with materials that help you feel good in comfortable clothes for as long as possible, but also contribute to the earth’s sustainability in a similar way. It’s for this reason that our tee’s are 100% made of ethically grown cotton and our fleece products are made with 40% certified post-consumer recycled Polyester, and 60% ethically grown cotton.
Our materials
Our cotton is gently made
The cotton we use in our new products is sourced from Brazil, it is grown using strict ethical practices, which helps farmers do their job in a way that is better for themselves, their communities, and the environment:
What does that mean?
• Alternative pest control methods used;
• Sustainable, economically beneficial and socially equitable use of water;
• Working with healthy soil helps to mitigate climate change;
• Enhanced biodiversity which minimizes negative impact on farmland habitants;
• Best practices used during harvest, storage and transport which preserves quality;
• Workers are offered fair pay and equal opportunities for learning.
Our polyester creates less waste
Wholesome Culture’s polyester gives a second life to materials that are not biodegradable and would otherwise end up in landfill or the ocean. It is a conscious choice to decrease our dependance on virgin petroleum-based materials, which come at a high environmental cost. By not using virgin polyester we are limiting CO2e being emitted into the atmosphere. Yes, it’s recycled. But here’s the thing: It’s equal in quality to virgin polyester and requires 59% less energy to produce.
Our dyes have no bad stuff
Our products are created in manufacturing facilities that are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified. In short, this guarantees our garments are dyed under these standards and are free of harmful chemicals that are often found in textiles. Any order you receive, has been tested and officially approved as safe for you and the earth. Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certifications verify the traceability and recycled polyester content of our products.
Higher human standards
Anyone dedicating their work to Wholesome Culture does so in a safe environment where they are treated ethically and morally. We opt to work with partners who have an unwavering commitment to workers health and safety and ensure that every worker is paid a sustainable living wage. We make sure of it. All our products are printed in Canada at socially and environmentally responsible companies, and our clothing is manufactured with organizations that are WRAP, SMETA, Accord, or GRS certified:
What does that mean?
• Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP)-certified workplaces protect our workers’ rights, and promote ethical, humane, and lawful conditions and practices in all Wholesome Culture manufacturing facilities;
• A Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) enables us to assess our suppliers, monitor the health and safety of our workers, and signal zero tolerance of human rights abuses;
• An Accord certification binds our brand with trade unions to work toward a safe and healthy garment and textile industry in Bangladesh;
• A Global Recycle Standard (GRS) certification verifies both the recycled content of our products and the responsible social, environmental, and chemical practices in our production.
